| Introduction to Planning & Assessment |

The JCPESS programme is built on pedagogic principles which encourage teachers to plan, reflect and evaluate their teaching. Therefore, much of the documentation that deals with planning also refers to teaching styles and assessment approaches.
Planning Planning is promoted at macro, meso and micro levels. Macro level refers to the three year junior cycle programme and should entail the programme outcomes and areas of study. Click here to download planning guidelines adapted from School Development Planning Guidelines for Post Primary Schools (SDPI). Meso level refers to the individual blocks of work entailed in teaching each area of study. In the context of the JCPESS programme the use of ‘Rich Tasks' has been encouraged. The development of Rich Tasks (insert link) involve the consideration of learning outcomes to be achieved at level one or two and these, in turn, influence the type of teaching styles to be employed. Micro level refers to individual lesson units and should specify the learning outcomes, content and teaching styles relevant to the lesson.

The JCPESS is facilitating an electronic mailing or discussion list, to facilitate the exchange of opinions and ideas among physical education teachers. The idea is to provide a supported community where teachers learn from each other, can share resources, expertise and other benefits.
