Vision That all post-primary school students have access to quality physical education
Mission The Support Service is committed to improving the quality of physical education through the professional development of teachers.
Strategic strands The work of the Support Service consists of 3 main strands. 1. A junior cycle strategy 2. A research and development strategy 3. A capacity building strategy
Strategic aims 1. The junior cycle strategy aims to embed the junior cycle syllabus in practice through a sustained programme of continuing professional development, including school based support and local network meetings. 2. The research and development strategy aims to facilitate the development of key areas with physical education through the promotion of programmes and initiatives where practising teachers play a central role in their design and development. Where possible, these initiatives have a research dimension for the purposes of enhancing understanding of the issues that influence practice. 3. The capacity building strategy aims to create structures and promote opportunities for capacity building within the physical education community.
Desired outcome More teachers professionally confident, empowered and proactive in advocating for quality physical education.

The JCPESS is facilitating an electronic mailing or discussion list, to facilitate the exchange of opinions and ideas among physical education teachers. The idea is to provide a supported community where teachers learn from each other, can share resources, expertise and other benefits.
